Boehm and Niesen Earn BIG EAST Weekly Awards

McKinley Boehm was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week while Kelsey Niesen earned Defensive Player of the Week.
NEW YORK - McKinley Boehm was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week for the third time this season while Kelsey Niesen was named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week for the first time in her career.
The duo helped lead Xavier to a 2-0 weekend on the road, picking up a 3-2 win over RV Marquette and a sweep of DePaul.
Boehm averaged 1.38 blocks per set through both matches, totaling 19 kills and 11 blocks including three solos.
The redshirt freshman notched eight kills and a match-high six blocks against Marquette en route to the Musketeers' first win over MU since 2016.
She followed up the next day with 11 kills and a team-leading five blocks while hitting .400.
The Utah native ranks third in the league with a .372 hitting percentage through conference play. She also averages a seventh-best 1.10 blocks per set.
Niesen anchored Xavier's back line on 3.63 digs per set and a double-digit performance in both matches.
The sophomore had a team-high 19 digs to hold Marquette to a .186 hitting percentage, their lowest mark in conference play.
Against DePaul, the libero recorded 10 digs and a perfect reception percentage.
She ranks fourth in the BIG EAST with 3.90 digs per set and leads the Musketeers with 0.38 aces per set.
Xavier leads the league with 14.39 digs per set in conference play behind Niesen's 3.39 and Emma Grace's 3.10.
The Musketeers return home this weekend to start a four-game home stretch. XU will face St. John's on Friday at 6:00 p.m. and Seton Hall on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. in Cintas Center.
