Senior forward posted her third hat trick of the season in 7-1 win over Marquette
NEW YORK - After posting her third hat trick of the season, Xavier's women's soccer forward Elin Hansson has named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.
In Saturday's match against Marquette, Hansson finished with a career-high seven points after knocking in three of Xavier's seven goals and picking up assist. Hansson, a senior from Halmstad, Sweden, got the Musketeers on the board first, scoring in the 14th minute. Shortly after halftime, Hansson picked up her second of the game, putting Xavier in front 4-0, then added another in the 56th minute to make it a 6-0 Xavier lead. In the 54th minute, she also found Samantha Erbach for an assist on the Musketeers' fifth goal of the night on the way to the 7-1 win over the Golden Eagles.
Hansson now has 33 points on 14 goals and five assists. Her total goals match Erbach to lead the BIG EAST and rank seventh in NCAA DI, while her total points rank second in the league and sixth in the country.
This is Hansson's third BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week honor of the season.
Xavier remains at home this weekend to wrap up the regular season, hosting No. 12 Georgetown on Saturday, Nov. 1, with the BIG EAST regular season championship on the line. The Musketeers and the Hoyas get underway at 6:30 p.m. on ESPN+.
