CINCINNATI - MacKenzie Givens and Mariyah Noel combined for 40 points on Monday night, leading Xavier to a 64-57 win over Akron on Monday night at James A. Rhodes Arena.
The Musketeers improved to 4-2 on the year, while the Zips dropped to 0-6.
Xavier opens BIG EAST action on Sunday, Nov. 30 vs No. 1 UConn. Tip-off is slated for 2:30 p.m. with the game being aired nationally on FS1.

NOTABLES
- Xavier never trailed in the game and led by as many as 12 points multiple times and as late as the 9:45 mark in the fourth quarter (53-41). Akron battled back to close within four points (61-57) with 1:14 on the clock, but the Musketeers went 3-for-3 from the foul line to close the game and pull away for the seven-point win.
- Sophomore MacKenzie Givens scored a career and game-high 21 points on 8-for-13 shooting. She added four rebounds and one assist. The guard/forward made her first start of the season on Monday night (now has six career starts).
- MacKenzie Givens has posted 20 or more points in back-to-back games this season. She is averaging 11.5 points and 4.0 rebounds per game this year. The Cincinnati native averaged 2.2 points and 1.3 rebounds per game during the 2024-25 campaign.
- Mariyah Noel added 19 points on 6-for-10 shooting in 26 minutes of action off the bench. The guard added a game-high nine rebounds. She has scored in double figures in every game this season, averaging a team-high 18 points per game (she entered the season with a 1.8 points per game scoring averaging in 39 games at Ole Miss).
- Lucía Martínez López finished with seven points and six rebounds, while Meri Kanerva chipped in six points, four rebounds and a game-high four assists. Savannah White finished with six rebounds, a game-high three steals, three assists and two points.
- Xavier finished the game with a .407 field-goal percentage (24-for-59) and went 3-for-18 from behind the arc. The Musketeers were 13-for-15 from the foul line.
- Xavier won the battle on the glass, 43-40, and held an 18-12 advantage in points off of turnovers. The Musketeers also scored eight more points in the paint (30-22) than Akron and held a 9-4 advantage in second-chance points.
- Xavier scored six more fastbreak points (14-8) and held a 23-18 advantage in bench points.
- Akron was limited to a .295 field-goal percentage (18-for-61) and went 7-for-31 from behind the arc. The Zips were also 14-for-17 from the foul line.
- Shaena Brew led three Akron players in double figures with 14 points. She added a team-high eight rebounds (Natalie Johnson also had eight rebounds).
- The win on Monday night snapped a 35-game road losing streak in true road games for the Musketeers (last road win was at SIUE on Nov. 27, 2022).
