CINCINNATI - The Musketeers posted a 7-24 overall record and a 1-17 mark in BIG EAST action during the 2024-25 season. Below are season highlights and notables from the season.
NOTABLES
- Meri Kanerva was named to the BIG EAST All-Freshman Team on March 6. She became the fourth Musketeer to earn BIG EAST All-Freshman Team honors: Meri Kanerva (2024-25), Aizhanique Mayo (2023-24), Fernanda Ovalle (2022-23) and Aaliyah Dunham (2017-18).
- No. 11 seed Xavier defeated No. 6 seed DePaul, 80-73, in the first round of the BIG EAST Tournament at Mohegan Sun on March 7. Xavier moved to 2-11 all-time in BIG EAST Tournament action. The Musketeers last win in the BIG EAST Tournament was on March 7, 2015 vs Georgetown (W, 79-67). Xavier was the first 11 seed to win a BIG EAST Tournament game in the current format (no. 11 seeds move to 1-4 since the start of the current bracket format in 2021).
- Xavier scored a season-high 80 points vs DePaul on March 7. The last time Xavier scored 80 or more points in a game was on Nov. 22, 2022 vs McNeese State (W, 84-68).
- Xavier matched its season high in made three points with 11 vs DePaul on March 7. The Musketeers made 10 or more three pointers in a game four times in 2024-25.
- Meri Kanerva scored a game and career-high 28 points vs DePaul on March 7. She was the first Musketeer to score 28 or more points in a game since A'riana Gray on Jan. 4, 2020 (28 points vs Butler at Cintas Center; L, 78-70).
- Meri Kanerva scored 28 points vs DePaul on March 7, while Aizhanique Mayo added 27 points. Xavier had two players with 20 or more points in the same game for the first time since Nov. 27, 2022. Fernanda Ovalle (20) and Mackayla Scarlett (21) scored 20 or more points at SIUE (W, 73-65).
- The Musketeers posted 3.40 Team GPA in 2024-25. Xavier had a 3.40 Team GPA in the fall 2024 semester and a 3.41 Team GPA in teh spring 2025 semester.
- Júlia Garcia Roig and Petra Oborilova were named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team on March 25. Both players had over a 3.50 grade point average. Garcia Roig is a biomedical sciences major and Oborilova is a digital media major.
- Xavier had 5,110 fans in attendance for its Kids Day on Dec. 4 vs Creighton, the seventh largest crowd in program history.
- Xavier averaged 1,305 fans at Cintas Center, the highest home attendance average since the 2019-20 season (1,326).
XAVIER RECORDS
- Meri Kanerva led the team in scoring (11.2) and assists (3.4). She finished the year with 105 assists, ranking second all-time at Xavier in assists by a freshman. Her 3.4 assists per game average also ranks second all-time at Xavier by a freshman. She was the first Xavier player to record 100 or more assists in a season since Shaila Beeler in 2021-22 (117 assists).
- Meri Kanerva scored 346 points, ranking sixth in single-season school history by a freshman. Her 11.2 points per game average also ranks sixth.
- Xavier made 187 three pointers, ranking tied for 10th in single-season school history. The last time Xavier made 187 or more three pointers in a season was in 2013-14 (204 made three pointers).
- Xavier attempted 608 three pointers, ranking seventh in single-season school history.
- Loren Christie had 42 blocks, ranking ninth in single-season school history. She averaged 1.4 blocks per game, ranking ninth in single-season school history.
- Tae'lor Purvis had 67 steals, ranking tied for seventh in single-season school history. Her 2.2 steals per game average ranks tied for eighth in single-season school history.
BIG EAST AND NCAA RANKINGS
- Xavier ranked fourth in the BIG EAST and 207th in the NCAA in field-goal percentage defense (.412).
- Xavier ranked sixth in the BIG EAST and 122nd in the NCAA in scoring defense (62.5).
- Xavier ranked fifth in the BIG EAST and 189th in the NCAA in steals per game (7.5).
- Xavier ranked third in the BIG EAST and 106th in the NCAA in turnovers forced per game (20.1).
- Loren Christie ranked sixth in the BIG EAST and 98th in the NCAA in total blocks (42). She also ranked fifth in the BIG EAST and 93rd in the NCAA in blocks per game (1.35).
- Tae'lor Purvis ranked third in the BIG EAST and 87th in the NCAA in steals per game (2.16). She also ranked fifth in the BIG EAST and 99th in the NCAA in total steals (67).
