Musketeers wrap up three-match road trip at Cincinnati on Sunday
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Xavier women's soccer fell, 3-0, at No. 17 Virginia on Thursday evening at Klöckner Stadium. The Musketeers moved to 0-2 on the season while the Cavaliers moved to 2-0.
UVA took the lead in the 15th minute, and added another goal the the lead in the 36th to take a 2-0 lead into halftime. Peyton Kohls led the Musketeers with a pair of shots in the first half. Presley Pennekamp also recorded a shot on-goal in the first 45 minutes.
After the Cavaliers held an 11-4 advantage on shots in the first half, the Musketeers out-shot Virginia, 7-6, in the second period, with each team putting three shots on-goal after halftime.
UVA added another goal off a free kick in the 62nd minute to take a 3-0 lead. Virginia goalkeeper Victoria Safradin matched her career-high with six saves to keep the Musketeers off the board, setting the final score at 3-0 in favor of the Cavaliers.
The Musketeers wrap up the three-game road trip to start the season on Sunday, August 24, traveling across town to face Cincinnati. The Musketeers and the Bearcats are set for an 6:00 p.m. start on ESPN+.
