Kemp Named BIG EAST Co-Defensive Player of the Week

Margo Kemp helped lead the Musketeers to a 3-0 weekend.
NEW YORK - Margo Kemp was named the BIG EAST Co-Defensive Player of the Week after the first week of the regular season.
Kemp helped lead the Musketeers to a 3-0 weekend at the Stacheville Challenge, averaging a league-leading 1.82 blocks per set to hold all opponents to a .090 hitting percentage. She also averaged 2.09 kills per set to maintain a .288 hitting percentage.
The middle blocker tallied a career-high 10 blocks against Murray State and helped the team record 19 total blocks in the win, the most in a single match since Sept. 21, 2018 against St. John's.
Kemp also recorded seven blocks along with eight kills on a .333 clip in the season-opening sweep of Tennessee Tech. The Musketeers held the Golden Eagles to an .021 hitting percentage, the lowest of any opponent since South Carolina State's -.016 on August 27, 2021.
She followed up the next match with nine kills while hitting .444 to go along with three blocks against Austin Peay.
Kemp is the reigning BIG EAST Co-Freshman of the Year and earned three Freshman of the Week honors a season ago.
The Musketeers return to Cintas Center this weekend for their home opener and the 2025 Xavier Tournament. Xavier will face IU Indy on Thursday at 6:00 p.m. to kick off the tournament.
