CINCINNATI - The Xavier volleyball team defeated Miami (Ohio) in a five-set thriller on Thursday night to move to 5-0 on the season, the Musketeers' best start since 2007.
Emma Grace had a career night, tallying a new career-high 23 kills and 27 digs for her fourth straight double-double.
XU came out swinging in the first set, hitting a combined .425 to pull out a 25-19 win in the opening frame.
The RedHawks responded with a gritty second set win, ending on a 5-0 run despite Emma Grace recording nine kills in the frame as part of her record night.
The Musketeers' hitting percentage dropped to .059, their worst mark of the night, in set three to let Miami take a 2-1 lead.
Xavier fought back in the fourth set with Emma Grace, Charlotte Moriarty and Anna Taylor each recording four kills each to balance out the Musketeer offense and take a 25-22 win to force a fifth set.
The Musketeers held onto their momentum in the final set, holding the RedHawks to a .077 clip while Elouise Czajkowski ended the match with an ace.
