Kanerva, Musketeers Top Hoyas on Sunday Afternoon

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Meri Kanerva led the Musketeers to a 52-51 BIG EAST road win at Georgetown on Sunday afternoon at McDonough Arena.
Xavier improved to 9-6 (2-4 BIG EAST), while the Hoyas dropped to 8-6 (1-4 BIG EAST).
The Musketeers conclude their BIG EAST road trip on Thursday, Jan. 8 at Villanova. Tip-off is slated for 11:30 a.m. from Finneran Pavilion with the game being aired on ESPN+.

NOTABLES
- The win snapped a 30-game BIG EAST road losing streak. It was Xavier's first road BIG EAST victory since Feb. 20, 2022 at Butler (W, 73-54).
- The win also snapped an eight-game losing streak vs the Hoyas. It was Xavier's first win over the Hoyas since Jan. 28, 2022 (W, 70-67 in overtime at McDonough Arena).
- The game featured 12 lead changes and four ties. Xavier led for 29:31 in the contest, while the Hoyas led for 4:42.
- A Petra Oborilova three pointer to open the final quarter gave the Musketeers their largest lead of the game, 42-31, with 9:53 on the clock. Georgetown battled back to take the lead, 49-48, with with 58 seconds left on the clock.
- The two teams exchanged leads two more times in the final minute of the game. Meri Kanerva hit the game-winning basket with 6.5 seconds on the clock. On the ensuing possession, Kanerva took a charge with four seconds left in regulation.
- Meri Kanerva scored a team-high 14 points on 6-for-16 shooting. She scored all 14 points in the second half (went 0-for-6 from the floor in the first half).
- Meri Kanerva dished out a game-high seven assists to go along with four rebounds and two steals. She is averaging 5.5 assist per game in BIG EAST only games, ranking second in the conference.
- Meri Kanerva logged all 40 minutes. The guard also increased her career double-figure scoring games to team-leading 25 games.
- Petra Oborilova added a season-high 12 points, her first game of the season in double figures. She now has 11 career double-figure scoring games. The forward added three rebounds, one block and one assist.
- Savannah White finished with seven points and a game-high 11 rebounds. She now has six career double-figure rebounding games. The forward added three blocks and one steal.
- Mariyah Noel finished with seven points, eight rebounds, one block and one steal. MacKenzie Givens had six rebounds, five points and one assist.
- Xavier posted a .317 field-goal percentage (19-for-60) and went 7-for-22 from behind the arc. The Musketeers were also 7-for-11 from the foul line.
- Xavier limited Georgetown to 19.2 points fewer than the Hoyas season average (70.2 points per game). The 51 points for Hoyas were their second fewest in a game this season.
- Georgetown won the battle on the glass, 43-37, and scored three more points off of turnovers (13-10). Both teams scored 10 second-chance points.
- The Hoyas held a 28-22 advantage in points in the paint and scored 11 more bench points (18-7). Georgetown also scored two more fastbreak points (7-5).
- Georgetown finished with a .385 field-goal percentage (20-for-52) and went 5-for-14 from behind the arc. The Hoyas also went 6-for-13 from the foul line.
- Khia Miller scored a game-high 18 points for the Hoyas, while Cristen Carter pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds.
