Musketeers Post Runner-Up Finish at Wexford Intercollegiate
02.17.26 | Men's Golf
Xavier recorded a 54-hole score of 873 (+9)
HILTON HEAD, S.C. - At the Wexford Intercollegiate, the scoreboard told a story of resilience, late-round momentum, and a Xavier University squad that continues to look increasingly comfortable in contention.
Â
Xavier delivered a strong three-day performance to secure 2nd place at +9, finishing just behind tournament champion College of Charleston and ahead of a tightly packed leaderboard that included Western Carolina University, Mercer University, and East Carolina University.
The Musketeers opened with a steady +4 in Round 1 and followed with +7 in Round 2, keeping themselves firmly in the hunt. The defining move came in the final round, where Xavier posted the second-best team score of the day (-2) to surge into solo second and create separation from the chasing pack.
Â
While several teams faded on Tuesday, Xavier moved forward. Their closing -2 team round was one of the few under-par efforts of the day and demonstrated competitive maturity. It allowed the Musketeers to separate from programs such as Francis Marion University, Gardner-Webb University, and Temple University, while putting pressure on the leaders late.
The ability to post a low final round when the leaderboard tightens continues to become a defining trait of this Xavier group.
The formula is becoming clear:Â steady opening rounds, disciplined par-4 play, and a willingness to attack when the final round arrives.
Â
T6 | -4 (71-70-71)
Cayse Morgan delivered one of the most complete performances of the tournament, finishing 6th individually at 4-under par against a strong field.
Morgan opened with a steady 71 and never left the top of the board, backing it up with rounds of 70 and 71. His three rounds in red numbers or better provided the foundation for Xavier's team success and kept the Musketeers within striking distance throughout the event.
His consistency across all three days gave Xavier a reliable low number each round and positioned the team to make its final-round move.
Â
T17 | +4 (70-78-72)
Kellen Dean showed resilience across the 54-hole test to earn a top-20 finish. After opening with a 2-under 70 to immediately put himself in contention, Dean battled through a challenging middle round before bouncing back with an even-par closing 72.
The strong opening round helped anchor Xavier early, while his steady final round contributed to the team's closing push into solo second.

XU FINISHES SECOND IN COMPETITIVE FIELD

Â
built ON CONSISTENCY ANDÂ DISCIPLINE
Xavier's performance profile was that of a disciplined, tournament-hardened lineup:
- T1 in Par-4 Scoring (4.13 | +19) alongside Charleston
- 6th in Par-5 Scoring (-2)
- 5th in Total Birdies (40)
- Just 7 double bogeys or worse across 54 holes
The par-4 dominance served as the foundation. On a course where mistakes lurk in every corner, Xavier played the longest stretch of the scorecard with composure and precision, matching the champions shot for shot on those holes.
The Musketeers also showed impressive damage control. With only seven doubles or worse and 50 total bogeys, they avoided the kind of scorecard blowups that derailed teams like University of South Carolina Aiken, DePaul University, and Samford University down the stretch.
