Musketeers travel to Cal State Fullerton for three-game series
The Musketeers took a 1-0 lead in the second after Landon Mensik led off the inning with a double, Clay Burdette was hit by a pitch, and Peter Johnson got on with a single to load the bases. Luke Hammond brought in Mensik with a sac fly for the first run of the game.
Indiana took the lead in the top of the fourth with a four-run frame, but the Musketeers got a run back in the bottom of the inning to cut it to 4-2. Burdette led off with a single, stole second, moved to third on a ground out from Hammond and scored on a wild pitch.
The Hoosiers extended the lead out to five with a three-run fifth inning, and added another run in the top of the sixth to take an 8-2 lead.Â
In the bottom of the sixth, Burdette got on with a single and moved to second on a walk from Johnson. After both runners advanced into scoring position, a double from Tommy Townsend brought them both in to cut IU's lead to four, 8-4.
The Hoosiers extended the lead back to six with a two-run homer in the seventh, setting the final score at 10-4 in favor of the Hoosiers.
The Musketeers now travel to Fullerton, Calif., to take on Cal State Fullerton in a three-game series, set to get underway on Friday, Feb. 27 and run through Sunday, March 1.

- Clay Burdette went 3-3 and was hit by a pitch in his first game of the season, coming around to score a pair of runs.
- Tommy Townsend went 1-2, driving in a pair of RBIs with a double.
- Luke Hammond drove in an RBI with a sac fly.
- Eddie Peters finished with a pair of hits (2-4) including a double and got on with a walk.
- Peter Johnson went 1-3 with a walk, scoring a run.

- Ashton Chronister made the start, allowing one run on three hits, finishing with two strikeouts to one walk.
- Jake Hooker entered with one on in the fourth, going 0.2 innings with three runs allowed on three hits and two walks, striking out one.
- Evan Vasiliou entered with two outs and the bases loaded in the fourth, facing two batters and picking up the final out of the inning with a strikeout.
- Owen Poole entered for the fifth, allowing three runs on three hits, walking three and striking out a pair.
- Trevor Geddes entered with the bases loaded and two outs in the fifth, going 1.1 innings, allowing one run on three hits with two strikeouts.
- Garrett Helsel entered for the seventh, allowing two runs on two hits with three strikeouts in 1.0 inning of work.
- Eli Bridenthal pitched a 1-2-3 eighth inning.
- Sam Hoeft came in for the ninth, not allowing a run in 1.0 inning of work. Hoeft allowed one hit, and finished with one K to one walk.
