Men's Basketball Signs Talented Guard Transfer From UAB

Chance Westry led the American in assists and assist-to-turnover ratio.
CINCINNATI --- Xavier University head coach Richard Pitino announced the signing of Chance Westry to an athletics aid agreement. Westry, a 6-6 and 205-pound guard from Harrisburg, Pa., played this past season for the UAB Blazers. He was a Second Team All-American Conference selection and a unanimous selection to the league's All-Newcomer Team. He was named as a USBWA National Player of the Week twice, an American Conference Player of the Week twice and four times as an American honorable mention selection.

"We are excited about the addition of Chance to our family," said Pitino. "He had a terrific year at UAB. Chance is a versatile guard with positional size. He is an elite passer. We expect him to make an immediate impact."

Westry played in 32 games, starting 27 times, for a UAB team that finished 20-12 overall. Westry led his team in scoring at 15.5 ppg., which ranked 13th in the American Conference, and led the entire league in assists at 5.5 apg. and assist-to-turnover ratio at 2.90. In addition he recorded 1.3 steals per game, which ranked 12th in the league. He scored 31 points in a December win over Cleveland State and set school and American Conference records with his 15 assists vs. Charlotte in the conference tournament.

Westry started his career at Auburn in the 2022-23 season and spent two years, 2023-25, at Syracuse, including a redshirt year in 2023-24.
