Outfielder from Cincinnati goes No. 195 overall
PHILADELPHIAÂ -Â Xavier outfielder Clay Burdette was selected in the seventh round in the 2026 MLB Draft by the Chicago White Sox, going at No. 195 overall.
Burdette, a Cincinnati native and a graduate of Moeller High School, led the Musketeers and ranked third in the league with a .343 average at the plate for the season, and finished 2026 with team highs for RBIs (45) and runs scored (43).
Burdette's 17 doubles ranked second in the league, while his 17 home runs, third most in a single season in program records, ranked third in the conference through the end of the BIG EAST Tournament. He finished 2026 with a .701 slugging percentage, the top mark in the league and No. 44 in NCAA DI through the end of May. Burdette also led the Musketeers with 10 stolen bases.
As a Musketeer, Burdette played in 107 games, starting in 103, with a career average of .318 at the plate, driving in 89 RBI and scoring 89 runs in his time at Xavier. Among his 128 career hits are 26 doubles, three triples and 30 home runs, with a career slugging percentage of .620. Burdette has a career on-base percentage of .423, with 48 walks as a Musketeer, and collected 23 stolen bases for his career.
