Xavier Sweeps Austin Peay

CINCINNATI – Xavier swept Austin Peay in the second match of the Xavier Tournament Saturday, Sept. 12.
XU is now 5-3 overall and 2-0 at home this season.
Macy Hatkevich began the match with an ace to give the Musketeers an early lead. XU went up 6-2 on another ace from Charlotte Moriarty. The Musketeers then went on a 5-0 run ending with an ace from Kelsey Niesen to make the score 11-4. Austin Peay would not come within seven points of Xavier again in the first set as the Musketeers went on a 6-0 run with two aces and two kills to make the score 20-7. XU would end the set 25-11 on a kill from Cami Sher.
Xavier claimed the second set 25-23 with 15 kills. Moriarty had six of the team's 15 kills in the frame. Tied 6-6, Xavier went on a 7-0 scoring run with an ace from Elouise Czajkowski. Austin Peay narrowed the gap 12-10, but an error and two kills would extend the Musketeer's lead. The set tied at 23 all, but Moriarty managed a kill and Austin Peay made an error for the set point.
The third frame remained within a couple of points throughout the match. Xavier secured the victory on a 5-0 run with four kills and an ace from Jenna Barhorst. It was Catherine Flaharty who sent the game winner over the net for the sweep.

Moriarty led the match in kills with 13 and hit .385. She also had three aces and five digs.

Niesen continues to lead the Musketeers in digs with 16 against Austin Peay and 138 total this season.

McKinley Boehm took three attempts and found a kill on each.

Xavier had seven aces total in the first set and 12 throughout the match. Seven different Musketeers had an ace.

The Musketeers hit .296 against the Governors.

Xavier plays Bowling Green at 7:30 p.m. for the third and final match of the Xavier Tournament.
