Xavier Loses 3-0 to Georgia Tech

ATLANTA – Xavier volleyball fell in three sets to Georgia Tech Sunday, September 6.
XU moves to 3-3 overall this season and ended the weekend 2-1.
In the first set, Xavier got on the board after six errors by Georgia Tech. Charlotte Moriarty had the first Musketeer kill of the afternoon set by Macy Hatkevich. The Yellow Jackets went on a 3-0 run that Ava Tilden ended with a kill. Tilden had three kills in the set. Georgia Tech pulled away and ended the set 25-15.
Kasey Quenichet had a service ace for Xavier's third point in the second set. Georgia Tech then went on a 6-0 run ended by an error. The Musketeers tallied five kills in the second set, and Catherine Flaharty claimed two of them. Georgia Tech went up 10-4 and Xavier would not regain control of the set, ending 25-13.
McKinley Boehm had a kill that brought XU up 9-6 in the third set. Quinci Thomas and Flaharty had back-to-back kills to keep Xavier in the lead at 13-11. Georgia Tech went up 6-0 and Moriarty ended the run with a kill set by Hatkevich. Xavier closed the 20-15 gap with kills from Boehm, Tilden, Moriarty and Flaharty. Boehm sent a service ace to make the score 22-23 before the Yellow Jackets secured the victory with a 25-23 final set.

Tilden led the team hitting .200.

Niesen and Quenichet each had at least seven digs against Georgia Tech.

Niesen picked up her 100th dig of the season against the Yellow Jackets.

Xavier is slated to host the Xavier Tournament Sept. 11-12. The teams competing are Saint Louis, Austin Peay, and Bowling Green.

Xavier's first match is Saint Louis Friday, Sept. 11 at 6 p.m.
