Academic Support

Academics
As a student-athlete, you represent Xavier University in intercollegiate athletic competition and are a full-time student of the University. You have the same academic responsibilities as students who are not athletes, and you must devote sizable amounts of time and energy to participate in your sport. Student-athletes have the ultimate responsibility for learning and for following a program that leads to a college degree. To support you in these efforts, the Xavier University Academic Advising Office in conjunction with the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics seeks to provide quality academic support services that will give you the greatest opportunity to excel in academics while competing in intercollegiate athletics.Â
Objective Based Learning Program
The goals of the study tables program at Xavier are to aid in the student's transition to college, provide structure in time management to those who may need it, and enable student-athletes to be successful in their academics.Â
Tutoring appointments, supplemental instruction, professor office hours, and learning specialist appointments will all count toward your overall hour requirement. Â
Professional Tutoring
The Student-Athlete Academic Support Services office employs professional tutors each year. All of these tutors have professional degrees, and most are current or former teachers.Â
These tutors are extremely flexible in working with the time demands of Xavier's student-athlete population. Their expertise in anything from math, foreign languages, and natural sciences is always just a phone call or email away.
Our well-trained tutors supplement all of the sound education practices that are imperative for academic success.Â
The SAASS Office collaborates with the Xavier Student Success Center (SSC) to provide student tutors to work with the student-athletes. Also available through the SSC are supplemental instructions (SI) sessions in the fields of biology, chemistry, anatomy and physiology. Â
Learning Specialist
Xavier Athletics employs several learning specialists to work with some student-athletes that need extra assistance in time management, study skills and organizational techniques. The learning specialist provides one-on-one attention to assigned student-athletes to help ensure their academic success.Â
Appointments may be available via remote or in person sessions.Â
