AT WAKE TECH: Spent 2023 and 2024 seasons at Wake Tech, appearing in 72 games, collecting 69 hits, including 31 for extra bases...Drove in 59 RBI and scored 73 runs...Had 66 strikeouts for his career...Batted .352 in 2024, with 13 doubles and 13 home runs among his 58 hits...Had 59 runs scored and 49 RBI...Took 41 bases on balls in 2024... earned All-Region 10 First Team and First Team West Division honors following the 2024 season.
PREP CAREER: Attended Durham Technical Community College in 2019 and 2020 after previously being home schooled and unable to compete in high school sports, per NCHSAA rules… Suffered a humerus fracture and was unable to compete in baseball as a junior…Senior baseball season was rescheduled due to COVID-19… Spent 2022 as PGY1 at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., after family friend submitted baseball recruitment video and IMG contacted to recruit…Was also a wrestler at the prep level…Competed at the 150-pound weight class during his junior year before fractured humerus ended season…Was a North Carolina State Finalist at 195-pound weight class as a senior after growing five inches and moving up weight classes between his junior and senior year.
PERSONAL: Born Chapel Hill, N.C… Graduated from high school with Magna Cum Laude honors and an Associate’s Degree 2021…Son of Jeff and Kelly Jelic…Father was a three-time Eastern Wrestling League Champion and All-American wrestler at Pitt, earning a spot in the EWL Hall of Fame…Sister Lauren was part of a North Carolina AA State Champion soccer team at Carrboro High School …Grandfather Ralph Jelic was fullback and linebacker at Pitt who was selected in the 1957 NFL Draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers…Grandmother Cynthia Jelic played basketball at Pitt and was the school’s 1957 Woman Athlete of the Year… Grandfather and father were both inducted into the Western Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame…Uncle Chris Jelic was a multi-sport athlete at Pitt, playing quarterback and catcher, earning a spot on the 1985 All-BIG EAST First Team as catcher, with MLB Hall of Famer Craig Biggio of Seton Hall earning Second Team honors… Uncle was selected in the 1985 MLB Draft following his junior season, going in the second round, 42nd overall, to the Kansas City Royals, eventually earning a spot in the Majors with the NY Mets.
