Ryan Reynolds, who earned both his bachelor’s degree and master’s degree from Xavier University, serves as Special Assistant to the Head Coach. Reynolds spent five years working under both Sean Miller and Thad Matta at Xavier from 2003-08. The first four of those seasons were as an undergraduate student manager and the last was as a Graduate Program Assistant.
“Ryan Reynolds and I have worked together for all but one of my years as a head coach,” said Miller. “Ryan is one of the brightest people in the college basketball industry. His unique ability to impact a program off the court in so many ways is rare. Ryan is also the son of well-respected former Madeira High School head coach Jim Reynolds. His roots and love for Xavier and Southwest Ohio are unmatched.”
Reynolds has been a part of five NCAA Tournament teams during his tenure at Xavier, including XU’s Elite Eight squads in 2004 and 2008. The Musketeers won the Atlantic-10 regular season or tournament title four times in that span.
Reynolds came back to Xavier from the University of Arizona where he spent the 2021-22 school year as the Assistant Athletic Director for Administration and Operations. Originally hired as an administrative assistant for men’s basketball for the 2009-10 season, he was promoted to the Director of Basketball Operations in May 2010. He was promoted to Assistant Athletic Director for Men’s Basketball Operations in July 2019.
During his tenure with the men’s basketball program in Tucson, Reynolds controlled the program’s internal operations. He oversaw major renovations to McKale Center, the weight room addition to Richard Jefferson Gymnasium, the men’s basketball locker room renovation and the McKale Center hallway project. Reynolds was also responsible for scheduling the Wildcats’ non-conference games, served as the program’s compliance liaison, director of the Sean Miller Basketball Camp, liaison to CATS Academics, budget manager and team travel coordinator.
Reynolds was a part of seven NCAA Tournament teams at Arizona, with UA advancing to the Sweet 16 five times and Elite Eight three times. The program has also captured five Pac-12 regular-season titles and three Pac-12 Tournament crowns during his time at UA.
Reynolds joined Arizona after spending the 2008-09 season as a member of the Wake Forest men’s basketball staff, where he was the Demon Deacons’ assistant coordinator of basketball operations under then head coach Dino Gaudio. In his lone season in Winston-Salem, Wake Forest opened the season 16-0, earning the nation’s No. 1 ranking, before finishing the year with a 24-7 record and earning an NCAA Tournament berth.
The Cincinnati native attended Madeira High School and graduated from Xavier University in 2007 with a bachelor’s degree in sports management and a business minor. He earned a master’s degree in sport administration from Xavier in 2008.
