Sean Flannery is in his second year with the Xavier basketball team. Flannery, a 2020 graduate of John Carroll University with a degree in sport studies and minoring in business, played in 98 career games in four years with the Blue Streaks. At John Carroll, Flannery was a three-year starter, made the sweet 16, won an Ohio Athletic Conference tournament, and led all NCAA divisions in Assist/Turnover ratio. Flannery was also a state champion and three-year varsity letterman at St. Edwards High School in Lakewood, Ohio.
“I’ve known Sean for a long time,” said head coach Travis Steele. “I used to go up to St. Edwards High School and recruit. I’m good friends with his dad, Eric Flannery, who’s the head coach at St. Ed’s, so I used to see Sean as he was growing up. Sean comes from a basketball family. It’s in his blood. He has a great IQ. He works really, really hard. He is intelligent and he is loyal.”
Flannery’s responsibilities include assisting the coaching staff in limited on-court activities during practice, advance scouting, video, on-campus recruiting and some social media. In addition to his basketball duties, Flannery is pursuing a master’s degree in coaching education.
