Abbie Hetherington was named assistant cross country coach in August of 2019. She will also work with the track and field programs.
In her first season with the program, she helped coach Anna Kostarellis and Maya Hannagan to All-BIG EAST honors in cross country. Kostarellis placed second at the conference championships and also competed at the NCAA Championships, becoming only the third runner in program history to qualify for the meet.
She assisted in coaching five athletes to top-10 finishes at the BIG EAST Indoor Track and Field Championships, including Kostarellis who earned all-conference honors. She also helped the women's team combined to set four indoor track records during the season.
Hetherington joined the Musketeers after a standout career at Oklahoma State. She was a six-time All-Big 12 selection in three events on the track: 800-meter run, 1,000-meter run and the 1,500-meter run.
Hetherington won a Big 12 Individual Title in 2017, placing first in the 1,000-meter run at the indoor championships. She earned All-American honors in 2018 as a member of the indoor distance medley relay team that placed sixth at the NCAA National Championships. Hetherington also helped the cross country team win the 2015 Big 12 Cross Country Conference Title, while also placing seventh at the NCAA Championships.
The Carlisle, United Kingdom, native, earned a bachelor's degree of science in marketing and entrepreneurship from Oklahoma State in 2018.
