Xavier women’s soccer head coach Dean Ward announced the addition of Noah Smith to his coaching staff in Spring 2024. Smith came to Xavier after spending two seasons as a graduate assistant at Valparaiso.
“Noah is a talented young coach who has good experience in a variety of different environments in his career so far,” said Ward. “He will work directly with our goalkeepers but also add value in all aspects of the program. Noah is organized, intelligent and relentless in the pursuit for excellence – he will be an asset in recruiting and developing our team.”
Smith joined Valparaiso’s staff in May 2022 as a graduate assistant and goalkeepers coach, helping lead the Beacons to a Missouri Valley Conference Regular Season Championship, MVC Tournament Championships, and an NCAA Championship appearance in two seasons.
In 2023, Smith helped lead the Beacons to an 11-6-6 overall record and MVC Tournament title, earning the program to first NCAA tournament appearance since 2014. Smith coached goalkeeper Nikki Coryell, who was named MVP of MVC Tournament after recording four of her nine shutouts on the season in the conference tournament. Coryell is now the MVC’s all-time leader in shutouts with 28.
In 2022, his first season with the Beacons, Smith and the Valparaiso staff were named the MVC Coaching Staff of the Year after going 7-1-2 in league play, winning the regular season crown. That season, Smith helped develop Nikki Coryell as the MVC Goalkeeper of the Year.
In addition to helping guide the goalkeepers at Valpo, Smith also assisted with recruiting, scouting and analytics.
Smith also has experience as a student assistant at Iowa State as an undergrad, and as an assistant coach at Johnston High School in Johnston, Iowa.
Smith earned a Bachelor’s from Iowa State in 2022, with a double major in Finance and Supply Chain, and is pursuing a Master’s degree in International Economics and Finance from Valparaiso.
