Malcolm McMullen lettered three years in basketball, served as Team Captain in his senior year, and three years in golf. He also is known for being the first ever Xavier basketball player to be drafted and play in the NBA (Indianapolis Olympians).
McMullen was one of Xavier's first "big men", playing in Lew Hirt's famous "double pivot" offense for three seasons. He helped Xavier to one of its best seasons ever, averaging 9.8 ppg. in his Junior year, ending with a school record of 24 wins (since broken). McMullen also helped XU to its first post-season appearance at the NAIB Tournament in Kansas City in the same season, where they finished fourth. His senior season was his best individual season, averaging 12.0 ppg., while helping XU finish 16-10.Â
Over his time at Xavier, McMullen was known for being a strong, dominant center who led his team in many aspects on the court. While Musketeer fans remember him for his basketball contributions, he was also a great golfer while at Xavier.
