Volleyball Defeats Notre Dame for First Win of 2026

SOUTH BEND – Xavier volleyball picked up their first win of the 2026 season, topping Notre Dame 3-1 in South Bend, Ind. Sunday, August 30.
The Musketeers are now 1-2 on the season.
Ava Tilden hit .275 with 15 kills to lead XU while Catherine Flaharty had 11 kills and a .318 hitting percentage.
Charlotte Moriarty had a career-high 22 digs against the Fighting Irish and 10 kills with a service ace.
Tilden had three of the Musketeers' first 10 points in the opening frame. Notre Dame then had three errors to propel Xavier to 14 points. Tilden had back-to-back kills to tie the set 16 all. The Irish managed to find set point at 24-19, but XU would hang on with three consecutive kills from three different Musketeers. Xavier would win the extended set 29-27 on a Notre Dame error after a back-and-forth battle between the teams.
In the second set, Xavier would prove dominant winning 25-15 without sacrificing the lead once. XU started hot with a kill from Margo Kemp who had five kills in the frame, including the set winning point.
The third set would also begin with a Kemp kill and the set remained close with both teams tied 12-12. The Fighting Irish would go on a 6-0 run to take the lead and XU would not respond. Notre Dame's final two points came off Musketeer service errors to claim their lone set of the day.
In the fourth and final frame, Xavier and Notre Dame would go neck and neck through the first few serves, but XU pulled away at 8-7. The Musketeers went on an 8-0 scoring run to leave the score 15-7. Notre Dame would not come within six points of Xavier for the remainder of the match. Moriarty secured the set point with a kill assisted by Jenna Barhorst and the match winner came from an Irish error.

Barhorst had 41 assists against Notre Dame and 44 total on the weekend.

The Musketeers tallied 72 total digs and hit .176 as a team.

Three different Musketeers had service aces in the match.

The Musketeers continue their road stint traveling to the Georgia Tech Tournament in Atlanta, Ga.
