Xavier enjoyed an impressive first year in the Cintas Center. XU finished 13-1 at its new home last season, while setting school records for most sell-outs (12), attendance average (10,072 per game) and total attendance (141,011 fans) for a single season.
The 2001-02 season begins a new era for Xavier basketball this Friday night. Xavier opens the new season under a new leader with an exhibition game against the EA Sports All-Stars at 7:30 p.m. on Friday night at the Cintas Center. XU plays its second and final exhibition game on Friday, November 9 at 7:30 p.m. against Marathon Basketball at Cintas Center. Tickets for the exhibition games are all priced the same as $10 reserved seats.
Xavier has a new head coach, Thad Matta, who takes over a team that finished 21-8 last season and tied with Temple for second place in the Atlantic 10 Conference at 12-4. Matta took Butler to the second round of last year?s NCAA Tournament. Matta hopes to build on the success of the Xavier program, which has enjoyed five straight 20-win seasons and postseason appearances. The first regular season game of the Matta era will be Saturday, November 17 at 7:00 p.m. at Cintas Center. The game is already sold out.
