Xavier jumped out to leads of 7-0 and 14-2 at the start of the game and extended the lead to 15 points, 51-36, at halftime. The Musketeers stretched the lead to as many as 23 points in the second half before closing out the 15-point win.
Romain Sato, 6-5 sophomore from the Central African Republic, was named Game MVP after scoring 23 points on the strength of five three-pointers to go with nine rebounds, three assists and two blocks. The 23 points marked the second-highest total of his career. Sato got plenty of support from 6-5 junior guard/forward Dave Young (New Castle, Pa.), who smashed his personal-best numbers with 19 points, five rebounds and two assists. Young?s previous career-high was 10 points last year against St. Bonaventure. David West, 6-9 junior forward from Garner, N.C., contributed 20 points, five rebounds and three assists.
Xavier?s next game is at Purdue on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. The Purdue game marks XU?s fourth straight game away from home.
