Sato, a 6-5 guard from the Central African Republic, was named to the All-Conference First Team for the second year in a row and to the All-Defensive Team for the third consecutive year.
Chalmers, a 6-1 guard from Albany, N.Y., was named to the All-Conference Third Team and to the All-Academic Team.
Sato is the only active player in the nation with 1,800 career points, 800 rebounds and 200 assists. In addition to the A-10 honors, the All-American candidate has been named to the 2003-04 NABC All-District 10 Team.
He leads Xavier with an average of 16.0 points per game while playing a team-high 36.7 minutes per contest. His career point total of 1,866 places him fifth all-time, and he’s just 20 points shy of fourth place.
Sato is also eighth in school history with 825 career rebounds. He is the only guard in the Top 15.
In addition to his three straight Atlantic 10 All-Defensive Team honors, Sato is a two-time member of Dick Vitale’s “All-Velcro” Team of defensive specialists.
Chalmers was named to the Third Team this season, an honor he also won as a sophomore in 2001-02. He is second on Xavier for scoring at 15.8 points per game, and his 1,399 career points puts him 15th in school history.
Chalmers has helped Xavier win nine of the last 10 games of the regular season by scoring in double figures in all 10 of those games. Ten of his 12 20-point games this season have come since conference play began in early January.
The Musketeers (19-10, 10-6) are the No. 4 seed in the West and open play in the Atlantic 10 Tournament on Wednesday at noon against St. Bonaventure, the No. 5 seed in the East, at UD Arena. Xavier won the regular season meeting 65-49 in Olean, N.Y. on Feb. 25.
The winner of the Xavier-St. Bonaventure game will advance to play undefeated Saint Joseph’s, the No. 1 team in the nation, at noon Thursday in game that can be seen on Fox Sports Net.
