Carroll leads four in double figures; Borovicanin posts double-double
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Xavier men's basketball erased a double-digit deficit to take a 80-77 win over Georgetown at Capital One Arena on Saturday evening.
Xavier moved to 9-4 (1-1 BIG EAST), while Georgetown dropped to 8-4 (1-1 BIG EAST).
The Musketeers return to action on Wednesday, Dec. 31, when Xavier hosts UConn at Cintas Center, set for a 5:00 p.m. start on Peacock.

Xavier moved to 9-4 (1-1 BIG EAST), while Georgetown dropped to 8-4 (1-1 BIG EAST).

NOTABLES
- Xavier led by as many as four in the opening minutes of the game before a 15-2 Georgetown run put the Hoyas in front, 28-19, with 7:52 remaining before halftime. GU built the lead out to as many as 10 in the first half.
- In the final five minutes of the first half, the Musketeers went on a 9-1 run to make it a one-possession game, 33-31, before the Hoyas took a 40-35 lead into the break. Malik Messina-Moore led all scorers with 12 first-half points.
- The Hoyas maintained the lead through the first 10 minutes of the second half, leading by as many as six after halftime. With just under 11 minutes remaining, back-to-back baskets from Tre Carroll started a 6-0 run to give Xavier its first lead since the opening minute of the game, 62-61.
- The two teams traded leads for going into the final minutes until a three from Jovan Milicevic put Xavier in front for good, with the Musketeers leading by as many as four in the final minute before winning 80-77.
- Tre Carroll led all scorers with 22 points after scoring 14 in the second half. Carroll also finished with eight rebounds and four assists.
- Malik Messina-Moore had 14 points after leading Xavier with 12 in the first half.
- Roddie Anderson III added 14 for the Musketeers. He also grabbed six boards and had four assists.
- Filip Borovicanin finished with his fourth double-double of the season, scoring 11 points and grabbing 13 rebounds.
- Xavier finished with a 45-36 advantage on the boards overall.
- The Musketeers had 14 turnovers to 10 for the Hoyas, but Xavier finished with a 13-8 advantage on points off miscues.
- Xavier finished shooting 46.3 percent (31-67) from the floor after hitting on 52.9 percent (18-34) in the second half.
- The Musketeers' bench outscored Georgetown's 22-9.
- There were 11 lead changes, and Xavier held the lead for 7:50.
- GU's 43 free throw attempts matched the most by a Xavier opponent since at least the 1989-90 season. The only other time on record was 43 by Wake Forest in a double OT win over XU on Jan. 3, 2010.
- The loss marked Georgetown's first home setback of the season.
