CINCINNATI --- Xavier University men's basketball coach Sean Miller announced that freshman forward Derrick Brown will redshirt this season.
Brown, a 6-7 and 210-pound forward from Dayton (OH) Chaminade-Julienne High School, turned 18 years old on September 8.
"After consulting with Derrick Brown and his family we have collectively decided to redshirt Derrick in his first year at Xavier," said Miller. "Considering his youth and his vast potential it made sense to allow Derrick to use this season to develop physically and improve his overall game. He has a great future in our program. This decision will benefit him significantly down the road."
Brown averaged 15.0 points and 10.2 rebounds at Chaminade-Julienne as a senior, while earning Greater Catholic League North Player of the Year, First Team All-Southwest Ohio and Third Team All-State honors.
