Xavier Track Opens Indoor Season at Purdue Invitational

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Xavier University men's and women's track teams opened up its indoor season with a solid outing as the Musketeers made their debut Saturday at the Lambert Fieldhouse on the Purdue University campus. XU set six school records were set on the day.
Freshman Luke Beuerlein began the indoor track season in the same fashion he ended the cross country season as the first-year turned in a school-record time of 4:26.62 in the one-mile run en route to a fourth place finish. Fellow freshman Clinton Womack made his mark in the 800-meter run as he finished fifth with a school-record time of 2:01.55.
In the 3,000-meter run, sophomore Ben Milroy broke the school record with a time of 8:49.99 on his way to an eighth place finish. The 4x400-meter relay of Jeff Hileman, Womack, Dan Heister and Beuerlein gave a solid performance as the four teamed up for a time of 3:36.95.
Becky Clark was equally as impressive on the women's side as the freshman recorded a third place finish in the one mile run with a school-record time of 5:14.05. Danna Deans turned in a mark of 16.89 meters in her first collegiate competition in the long jump.
The women's team will be back in action Friday, Jan. 20, at the BGSU Triangular while the men's team will be idle until the Ohio State Invitational slated for Jan. 28.
