CINCINNATI - Xavier senior Danielle Skrajewski picked up her fifth dig of the match during the second game to place her mark on the XU record books and help the Musketeers to their second win of the weekend. Xavier swept Rhode Island in its final Atlantic 10 match of the weekend with scores of 30-22, 30-22 and 30-17 to improve to 13-9 on the season and 6-1 in conference action. With the loss, URI falls to 6-17 and 2-4 in the A-10.
With the score 29-20 in favor of the Blue and White, Skrajewski took a Rhode Island attack and popped it up for her fifth dig of the match and her 1,000th in her career. The dig also put Skrajewski in elite company in the XU record books as she becomes the ninth member of the prestigious 1,000-1,000 club for kills and digs in a career. She has tallied 47 career double doubles as a Musketeer.
As a team, the Musketeers held the Rams to a mere .041 hitting percentage while posting a .257 percentage of their own. XU also posted six aces on URI and tallied more kills (48-33) and digs (47-39).
Skrajewski finished the afternoon with nine kills and eight digs with a .350 hitting percentage. Classmate Astyn Bjorklund would lead the offense with 10 kills and a .300 hitting percentage and she also added four digs. Junior Jenni Horvath ended with nine kills, while classmate Jill Quayle added six. Freshmen Kelly Ruth, Hillary Otte and Kelly Sherman would each help in the XU cause with eight, three and one kills, respectively. Classmate Lauren Kaminsky continued to shine at the libero position and finished with a match-high 15 digs.
The Musketeers will take the week off before getting back on the road for a key A-10 weekend against Duquesne and Saint Louis. Xavier will first travel to Duquesne on Friday for a 7:00 pm match and then make the trek to Saint Louis for a Sunday matchup with the Billikens at 2:00 pm. Both opponents are in the A-10 West division with XU and the Billikens currently sit tied atop the A-10 West standings with a 6-0 conference mark.
