WILMINGTON, N.C. - Play began Friday morning at the Landfall Tradition in Wilmington, N.C. and after the first round, the Xavier University men's golf team stands seventh. The Musketeers carded a 309 as a team, led by the three-over par 75 from senior Jason Kokrak. The second round begins Saturday morning at 8:15 a.m. ET with the final round set for Sunday. Kokrak, who stands tied for 13th in the field, played the front nine one-under par and was able to right the ship after finding trouble at the turn. The senior went double bogey, triple bogey, double bogey on holes nine, 10 and 11, respectively, but stemmed the tide with a birdie on the par-four 12th. He was three-over for his round on par-72, 7,084-yard Nicklaus Course at Country Club of Landfall.
Senior John Streibich, junior Andy Connell and sophomore Kyle Hodges each posted rounds of 78 (+6) and are tied for 31st. Freshman Alan Glynn fired an opening-round 81 and is tied for 48th of 60 golfers. Streibich and Glynn each found trouble on No. 7, carding a nine and a seven, on the 414-yard, par-four hole.
It was a rollercoaster round for the Musketeers, who totaled 16 penalty strokes, but tacked 15 birdies on the board.
Tulsa leads the field of 12 teams, shooting a two-over par 295 as a team. Purdue (296), Ohio State (299), Kansas (299), Memphis (305) and Indiana (306) round out the top half of the leaderboard. Mitch Cohlmia of Tulsa and Bobby Knowles of Kansas are the 18-hole leaders at 71 (-1).
