Team Effort Leads Xavier over Morehead State

CINCINNATI - In the first weekday action of the season, Xavier downed host Morehead State 3-1 in non-conference volleyball action. Danielle Skrajewski continued to lead the way as the senior notched her fifth straight double double. With the win, the Musketeers improve to 9-7 overall, while the Eagles drop to 12-6 and 4-1 at home as XU dealt MSU its first home loss on the season.
In the match, Xavier posted a .340 hitting percentage while holding Morehead State to only a .165 hitting percentage. MSU totaled more kills on the match by a 67-62 margin but committed 39 hitting errors compared to only 12 by XU. The Musketeers also recorded a season-high 13 team blocks on the evening.
The Musketeers were led by Skrajewski who posted her fifth straight and 44th career double double. She ended the night with 13 kills and 14 digs to go with a .250 hitting percentage and two block assists. Freshman Kelly Ruth also continued her fine play as the rookie earned her second straight and third career double double on the night. Ruth ended with 10 kills and 12 digs powered by a .360 hitting percentage and two block assists. Megan Hellmann totaled 11 digs on the evening, while classmate Jenn Welsh dished out 50 assists. Jill Quayle took the team-high honors with 15 total kills and a .429 hitting percentage, while freshman Lauren Kaminsky also had 10 kills on the night.
Xavier will return to the court this Friday evening as the Musketeers travel north to face rival Dayton at 7:00 pm at the Frericks Center. In the all-time series, UD holds a 30-23 advantage over the Blue and White. XU has faced the Flyers the most times out of any school in program history and this will be the 54th meeting between the two schools.
NOTE: The match between Xavier and Wright State scheduled for 7:00 pm on Tuesday, October 3, at Cintas Center has been cancelled. The match will not be rescheduled.
