
Xavier Women's Soccer Team Drops One At St. Bonaventure

The Xavier Musketeer women's soccer dropped a 4-3 decision at St. Bonaventure on Friday afternoon. The loss offset a two-goal, one-assist effort from junior Melissa Zimmerman. Zimmerman leads the Musketeers in both goals scored with six and points with 13 on the season.
St. Bonaventure had the upper hand before intermission, taking a 2-1 lead into the locker room at halftime. The Bonnies had a 7-5 shot advantage before halftime, including 5-2 in shots on goal.
The Bonnies struck first at 20:28 on a header by freshman Marilyn Wargo that hit off a post and crossed into the goal.
Xavier answered a little more than a minute later at 21:45 as Zimmerman sent a shot over the outstretched arms of the SBU goalie to tie the score at 1-1.
St. Bonaventure got the third and final goal of the first half less than two minutes after the XU goal as senior Jacquee Parmiter sent a shot in the left side of the goal. SBU led 2-1.
Xavier tied the score again in the 61st minute as freshman Kaitlyn McGoldrick found the back of the net on a header off a cross and assist from Zimmerman. The two teams were tied again at 2-2 at the 60:47 mark.
The Bonnies grabbed the lead back six minutes later at 66:58 as freshman Courtney Bosse scored. SBU led 3-2.
Xavier senior Karin Martini just missed the equalizer at 74:41 as her header hit the post and bounced out.
The Musketeers tied the score at 3-3 when Zimmerman scored on a header at 75:49. Senior Carissa Gilbert served up a perfect pass and assist off a corner kick.
Bona senior Jessica Bartock scored what proved to be the game-winner at 83:35.
Xavier was whistled for 19 fouls on the day, while SBU was flagged for 10. The referee also handed out four yellow cards, all of which were called on four different Musketeers over the final 46 minutes of action.
Xavier falls to 2-3-1 in the Atlantic 10 and 3-10-1 overall, while St. Bonaventure raises its records to 1-4-0 in the A-10 and 4-9-1 overall.
