UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Sophomore Mary Beth McKenna had another career day at the Nittany Lion Invitational, tying her second-lowest round of the season with a two-under 74 to finish tied for fifth overall (230, +14). McKenna led the Musketeers to a sixth place finish (958, +94), just four shots behind James Madison U. at the 6,300 yard, par-72 Penn State Blue Course.
McKenna is averaging 75.28 strokes over her last seven rounds. In recent history, no women's golfer had recorded two straight top-five performances.
Princeton had the top score of each round, claiming the team title. Laura Bavaird of Western Michigan earned top medalist honors after finishing at seven-over par, just a stroke ahead of Princeton's Sussanah Aboff.
Freshman Audrey Fellmeth found her rhythm, firing 80-80-81 to finish tied for 25th with fellow Musketeers Diana Torry. Both carded an 81 in their final round and tied at 25-over par (241).
Sophomore Lindsay Steiner improved in her final rounds to finish tied for 48th and 34-over par. Freshman Rachel Levi had a difficult final round, dropping to 60th place at 39-over.
Following a break this week, Mary Beth McKenna and the Musketeers will look to continue their success as they host the LPGA International Xavier Invitational in Daytona Beach, Fla. Play begins at 7:30 a.m. on October 13th with the final round to be played on the 14th.
