Musketeers Roll Over Panthers 7-0 in Women's Tennis

GREEN BAY, Wis. - The Xavier women's tennis team used a clean sweep to down Wisconsin Milwaukee, 7-0, Saturday afternoon in Green Bay, Wis. Senior Jackie Vilines picked up wins in both the No. 1 singles and doubles positions as the Musketeers improved to 4-2 overall, while snapping a two-match winning streak for the Panthers (4-4).
Vilines got things rolling with a first singles win over Kelly Drvaric. Vilines dropped the first set 6-4, but recovered to take the next two 6-0 and 7-5.
She teamed with sophomore Kara Courtney to post a first doubles victory over Kari Kastenholz and Ashley Schoneman by an 8-4 count. Courtney also defeated Kastenholz in second doubles, winning in straight sets 6-0, 6-1.
The Musketeers were on the winning end of a few more thrillers as Jeanette Feider needed tiebreakers in both sets to down Ali O'Neal in No. 4 singles 7-6 (3), 7-6 (7). Alicia Papa needed a third set and two tiebreakers to beat Lauren Fenley 6-1, 6-7 (7), 7-6 (5).
All three doubles matches went Xavier's way with Annie Diedalis and Jill Ducro teaming to beat Drvaric and O'Neal 8-5. Feider and Kate Lohner posted an 8-4 victory over Litscher and Illingworth in the No. 3 position.
The win moved XU head coach Jim Brockhoff one closer to the 1,000th of his career. Brockhoff currently has 983 career triumps as the men's and women's head coach at Xavier.
The Musketeers contine their Wisconsin swing Sunday, taking on the Phoenix of Wisconsin-Green Bay at 10 a.m.
