
Women's Tennis Tripped Up By Bearcats, 4-3

CINCINNATI - Sophomore Kara Courtney's two wins were not enough as the Xavier women's tennis team dropped a 4-3 decision to crosstown rival Cincinnati on Wednesday afternoon. Courtney won both her No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles match-ups for the Musketeers (5-3) who fell for the first time three tries. UC improved to 5-2.
Courtney downed UC's Rachel Owens in straight sets 6-3, 6-3. She then teamed with doubles partner, senior Jackie Vilines, to defeat Owens and Hannah Hinton by an 8-3 count.
Freshman Kaitlyn Zinn picked up XU's other singles triumph, beating Elizabeth Young by scores of 6-3 and 6-2. Sophomore Jeanette Feider took Alizee Paradis to a third set before falling 6-4, 5-7, 6-4.
The doubles point went Xavier's way with the Musketeers taking two of three matches. Courtney and Vilines victory in the first position was followed by Feider and Kate Lohner winning their No. 3 contest. They beat the pairing of Rowen and Young 8-5.
The Musketeers are back in action Friday afternoon, opening Atlantic 10 play at Saint Louis.
