
Women's Golf Finishes Ninth at Rio Verde Invitational

RIO VERDE, Ariz. - Led by the play of Mary Beth McKenna and Kara Manis, the Xavier University women's golf team remained in a tie for ninth place with Cincinnati after the final round of play at the Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational hosted at the 6,277 yard Quail Run Golf Course.
XU's team average remained relatively constant throughout the tournament, limiting the Musketeers' ability to gain ground on the field. The
Baylor edged Arkansas-Little Rock by three strokes to earn the team title at 22-over par. Baylor's Allison Martin continued her impressive performance, finishing as the individual title winner at four-under.
Freshman Mary Beth McKenna's final round was highlighted by four birdies in her first eight holes. McKenna finished the day with Xavier's best round of the tournament, a one-over par 73. McKenna steadily improved as the weekend progressed, shaving off six strokes from her first day total to finish in a tie for 18th at +11.
The Musketeer leaders seemed to save their best for last as senior Kara Manis also shot her lowest round of the tournament Sunday. Manis carded a three-over par 75 to close out her performance in a tie for 21st, just a stroke behind McKenna.
Senior Kathleen Hardy closed out her tournament with a pair of 79's to finish in a tie for 43rd at 16-over. Freshman Lindsay Steiner's 79 average for the tournament earned her a tie for 65th at +21. Junior Diana Torry found herself three shots back from Steiner at 24-over in a tie for 76th, dropping after a final-round 85. Junior Erin Gore rounded out play for the Musketeers in a tie for 86th, finishing her tournament performance with a 79 on the final day.
