CINCINNATI - TOLEDO, Ohio - Xavier sent 12 men to the plate and produced nine runs in the opening inning to top host Toledo, 23-11, in non-conference action on Tuesday afternoon. The inning was highlighted by senior Jordan Wolf going 2-for-2 in the inning with a homerun and a double. The win puts the Musketeers at 25-27 on the season and Toledo moves to 24-25 overall.
The Musketeers opened up the game by sending 12 batters to the plate in the first inning and plated nine runs on two homeruns and four walks to jump out to the early 9-0 lead after a half inning. Wolf and Adam Lipski each homered in the inning with Wolf notching a double in his last at-bat of the frame.
After holding the Rockets scoreless in the first inning and having two more runs cross the plate in the top of the second, UT responded with seven in the bottom of the second to cut the advantage to 11-7.
Each team plated three runs in the third inning but it was the Blue and White putting a four-spot on the board in the fourth to put the game out of reach at 18-10.
After trading runs in the fifth, sophomore Joe Kohler would bear down and hold the Rockets to just two hits and issued one walk over the last four innings. Kohler (1-0) finished the game by picking up his first win of the season and allowed just one earned run on nine hits and struck out three.
XU had a homerun in three of the first five innings with Wolf earning his seventh and eighth of the season, while Lipski, Andy Zellers and Matt Waskerwitz also sent one over the fence.
Wolf ended the day with a career-high five hits and seven RBIs, while ending the day 5-for-6 at the plate with two homeruns, three doubles a single and four runs scored. Lipski was right behind Wolf as his classmate finished 3-for-6 with a homerun, double, single and four RBIs. Zellers and Robbie Kelley each had two hits in the game.
