CINCINNATI - Head coach Kevin McGuff has announced the finalization of the Musketeers' 2007-08 schedule. XU's 29-game schedule is comprised of 14 Atlantic 10 Conference games and 15 contests against non-conference opponents. The Musketeers will play 17 games at Cintas Center and will have eight showdowns against teams from power conferences.
"This year's schedule promises to be extremely challenging," said Mcguff. "I put this together because I am confident our young team will be able to handle the rigors of playing such a nationally competitive schedule."
The 2007-08 slate will feature five games against teams that participated in the 2007 NCAA Tournament, including three teams (NC State, Georgia and George Washington) that advanced to the Sweet 16. XU will play a total of seven games against teams that advanced to national postseason play.
The Musketeers will open the 2007-08 regular season on the road at Florida on November 9 before returning home for six-straight home contests. Xavier's home opener is against the Penn State Lady Lions on November 15. XU will be hosting the National City Xavier Invitational for the seventh consecutive year during Thanksgiving weekend and will face Houston, McNeese State and Liberty in Cintas Center over the three-day event to wrap up the month of November.
In addition to Florida, Xavier's road schedule includes North Carolina State, Louisville, Akron and Kentucky along with seven Atlantic 10 road games. There are only two instances when the Musketeers will be on the road for more than one game at a time: at NC State and Louisville in December and then at Fordham and La Salle in February.
Xavier will open A-10 Conference play on the road on January 13 when it travels to Washington, D.C. to square off against George Washington. That game will be televised live on ESPN2, marking the third year in a row that XU has played a nationally televised regular-season game.
Xavier's A-10 docket includes a home-and-home series against intrastate rival Dayton and home games vs. Richmond, Saint Joseph's, Massachusetts, Saint Louis and Temple. The Musketeers will square-off against Duquesne, Rhode Island, Fordham and La Salle on the road in addition to the aforementioned contest against GW.
