Men's Tennis Drops Close One to UIC, 4-3

HINSDALE, Ill. - The Xavier men's tennis team fell, 4-3, at Illinois-Chicago Saturday evening on UIC's home courts at Hinsdale Racquet Club. The Musketeers fall to 2-5 for the season and the Flames improve to 2-4 for the year.
"We competed well but it is disappointing to drop another match where we had opportunities to pick up a victory," commented head coach Eric Toth following the match. "In order for us to be the NCCA Tournament team we strive to be we have to start winning these close matches."
XU won the first point of the match by winning two of the three doubles matches played. Junior Doug Matthews paired with sophomore Chris Herrlinger at the No. 1 position for a 8-5 win over UIC's Sebastain Lystad and Bastian Harbo. At the three spot, junior Ra'ees Ismail and sophomore Anthony Palmenter got past Danny Wilson and Sean Kreymborg, 8-2.
In singles action, junior Mike Dieciuc defeated Wilson at No. 5, 6-3, 6-4 and senior Brian Schubert downed Tim O'Brien in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0, at the No. 6 position.
The Musketeers will return to action Friday, Feb. 15 as they travel to Washington, D.C. to open Atlantic 10 conference play at George Washington. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
