Women's Tennis Gets 6-1 Win Over Dayton

CINCINNATI - The Xavier women's tennis team wrapped up its regular season schedule with a 6-1 win over visiting Dayton Sunday afternoon. Juniors Kara Courtney and Jeanette Feider along with freshman Tifanie Treece all won both their singles and doubles matches in the Musketeer victory. Xavier improves to 14-7 overall and 3-1 in Atlantic 10 play with the win while Daytaon falls to 7-14 for the season and 1-3 in conference action.
"We are very happy with the win today," said head coach Eric Toth following the match. "This puts us in a postition to get a top-five seed in the upcoming A-10 Tournament. We're going to have to bring our best to the tournament in order to accomplish our goal of winning the championship."
XU went ahead early in the contest after picking up the doubles point by winning two of the three doubles contests. Courtney and Feider teamed up at No. 1 to defeat UD's Allysa Detroy and Megan Gray, 8-3.
In singles action, sophomores Jill Ducro and Kaitlyn Zinn notched wins at Nos. 4 and 5, respectively. Ducro downed Chelsea Glankler, 6-1, 6-2, while Zinn got past Nicole Dzubay, 6-4, 6-3.
Up next for the Musketeers is a trip to Monroeville, Pa., for the 2008 Atlantic 10 Women's Tennis Championship to be held April 18-20.
