Baseball Opens 2009 at NC State's Summit Hospitality Invitational

RALEIGH, N.C. - The Xavier baseball team opened its 2009 season Friday morning at NC State's Summit Hospitality Invitational with a 3-0 loss to Santa Clara. Three Musketeers collected a hit on the day, including junior Bobby Freking who tallied a game-high 13 putouts playing at first base.
Seniors Jordan Conley and Adam Pasono also batted singles in the game for the Musketeers.
The score remained tied at 0-0 through the first six innings as both teams were putting together strong defensive showings. The Bronco's Geoff Klein collected three RBI on a double to left field in the seventh inning as Kyle Van Dusen scored what proved to be the winning run.
Junior Danny Rosenbaum tossed six scoreless innings for the Musketeers, giving up four hits while walking five and striking out two. Senior Brett Greenwell (0-1) was charged with the loss. He threw two innings, giving up three runs on two hits and walking one.
Nate Garcia (1-0) collected the win for SCU after putting in seven innings of work. He gave up three hits and struck out eight batters while walking only one. Steve Kalush tallied the savefor the Broncos after closing the game striking out two and walking one.
The Musketeers return to action Saturday with a match-up with host NC State. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. at Doak Field.
