Baseball Drops Spartan Classic Opener to Quinnipiac, 7-5

GREENVILLE, S.C. - In its opening game of the Spartan Classic, the Xavier baseball team dropped a 7-5 decision to the Quinnipiac Bobcats Saturday evening. The two teams were originally scheduled to play at noon but rain in the area resulted in the game being pushed back to 4:28 p.m. Three Musketeers tallied multiple hits in the contest.
Senior Billy O'Conner went 2-for-4 at the plate with an RBI and a run scored in addition to 13 put outs. Juniors Zac Richard and Drew Schmidt also had two hits each.
Junior Danny Rosenbaum (2-1) took the loss for Xavier (6-6). He tossed 5.1 innings striking out seven while walking six. He gave up four runs on four hits.
The Musketeers nightcap against host Michigan State that was originally scheduled to follow the XU-QU game has been rescheduled for Sunday morning at 10 a.m. The Musketeers and Spartans will now play two on Sunday, March 15.
