Musketeer Offense Explodes for 12 in Win over SLU

CINCINNATI - The Xavier baseball team smacked 18 hits, with nearly every lineup slot having a multi-hit game, during the Musketeers' win in the second meeting of the Saint Louis homestand at Hayden Field. Xavier won the contest by a score of 12-8, remaining perfect in the Atlantic 10 (9-6 overall, 2-0 A-10) while the Billikens fall to 11-9 overall, winless in the A-10.
Senior Adam Pasono had a career day, notching five RBI's on three hits while scoring two runs of his own. The five RBI's bring Pasono to the top of the XU RBI leaderboard, one ahead of fellow senior Billy O'Connor.
Saint Louis' Cody Cotter opened the scoring in the first inning, driving a leadoff double to left center which the Billikens used to take a 1-0 lead.
SLU gave XU's freshman starter Nathan Mutsch a rough third inning, scoring five runs on five hits to take a 6-0 lead. Xavier answered in the fourth with five runs on five hits of their own. Senior Sean Farrell, junior Drew Schmidt, sophomore John McCambridge, senior Adam Pasono, and senior Billy O'Connor all had hits in the inning, putting Xavier in the position to claim the lead.
Xavier used a McCambridge sacrifice fly to right in the next inning to send home Farrell, tying the game at six.
Saint Louis answered immediately, scoring two runs on three hits to put Xavier behind 8-6. The Musketeers kept pushing back, scoring another three runs in both the seventh and eighth inning to seal the victory. Pasono was the offensive leader, driving in two runs on his double to center in the seventh, eventually scoring himself on O'Connor's single to center.
Sophomore Brian Muransky earned the win after pitching three and a third innings, giving up one hit and striking out three. Saint Louis' Outman was credited with the loss, giving up six runs (five earned) on nine hits in three and a third innings of work.
The final game of the Saint Louis homestand will be played at noon on Sunday at Hayden Field.
