WASHINGTON, D.C. - After giving up the first run of the game in the first inning, the Xavier baseball team recorded the next four of the contest to take the 4-1 win over George Washington Saturday afternoon. Sophomore John McCambridge's double scored the winning run for the Musketeers as he went 3-for-4 on the day.
Also for Xavier, three other Musketeers had multiple-hit games including junior Zac Richard who was 2-for-4 at the plate with an RBI and a run scored.
George Washington (20-30, 9-13 A-10) kicked off the game with a single run in the bottom of the first as Sean Rockey singled in Tom Zebroski to take the early 1- 0 lead. It would be the only run the Colonials would muster.
Xavier (29-18, 15-8 A-10) finally got on the board with a two-run fourth as senior Jordan Conley led off the frame with a single and was moved over to third on a double by junior Zac Richard. Senior Steve Brown recorded a sacrifice fly as Conley tagged and safely made it home. Sophomore John McCambridge was at-bat next and his double allowed Richard to score what would prove to be the winning run as XU took the 2-1 advantage.
The Musketeers scored one more in both the fifth and eighth innings to insure the win. In the fifth, senior Neil Lindgren reached first after being hit by a pitch and in his attempt to steal second, he was able to advance to third on a throwing error by the pitcher. On the same play, the center fielder also recorded a throwing error as Lindgren made around to home. In the eighth, Richard hit another double, plating sophomore Ben Thomas from second as XU took the contest, 4-1.
Junior Danny Rosenbaum (4-4) got the win for the Musketeers after throwing eight complete innings. He game up only one run on nine hits and struck out eight batters while walking two. Senior Jordan Conley picked up his record-tying 10th save of the season after facing the last four batters of the game. He walked the first one and then struck out three consecutive Colonials to close out the contest.
Pat Lehman (6-4) took the loss for the Colonials after throwing eight innings. He gave up four runs on 10 hits and fanned six batters while walking only one.
Xavier and George Washington will wrap up their three game series on Sunday in Washington, D.C. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
