Xavier (14-6, 6-1 Atlantic 10) used a balance scoring attack and stingy defense to defeat Duquesne (10-10, 1-5 A-10), 86-50. Jason Love and Jordan Crawford paced XU with 17 points apiece, Kenny Frease scored 13, Terrell Holloway added 11, and Mark Lyons chipped in 10. Frease grabbed 12 rebounds and Holloway had 7 assists with just 1 turnover). Duquesne was led by Melquan Bolding with 14 points. Damian Saunders grabbed 8 rebounds, and Eric Evans had 5 assists.
Xavier allowed a season low 50 points to Duquesne. The previous low by an XU opponent was 57 points by Youngstown State (11-13-09) and Bowling Green (11-17-09).
Duquesne scored just 23 points in the first half, which were the fewest given up by the Musketeers in a half this season. The previous low was 24 points by Youngstown State (11-13-09) and by Sacred Heart (11-21-13), both in the second halves of their games.
Xavier led by 20 points, 43-23, at halftime against Duquesne, which was XU’s largest lead heading into intermission since taking a 50-24 lead into the break against Sacred Heart.
XU had a plus-21 rebound margin (47-26) against Duquesne, the second most by the Musketeers this season. XU had a 23-rebound advantage (51-28) against Sacred Heart (11-21-09).
Xavier’s 20 assists were two shy of the team season high of 22 assists against Sacred Heart (11-21-09).
With tonight’s win, Xavier extended its home winning streak to 20 games, the fifth-longest home court winning streak in the country. The 20-game streak is the longest by any XU squad since Cintas Center opened for the 2000-01 season. Now in its 10th season playing at Cintas Center, XU is 131-17 (.885) overall at its on-campus arena.
XU improved to 66-10 (.868) against Atlantic 10 competition at Cintas Center. The Musketeers have won 28 consecutive Atlantic 10 games at Cintas Center, which is the second-longest streak in A-10 history.
Xavier is 13-2 this season when it scores at least 70 points, with its only blemishes being the 96-92 double-overtime setback at Wake Forest and the 77-72 loss at Temple. XU is 11-2 this year when it holds its opponent under 70.
Through seven Atlantic 10 Conference games, Xavier has held opponents to just 20.0 percent shooting (26-for-130) from behind the three-point arc. Conversely, the Musketeers are shooting 40.2 percent (53-for-132) from behind the arc in conference play.
Kenny Frease recorded the first double-double of his career with 13 points and a career-high-tying 12 rebounds. He also had 12 boards against LSU (12-29-09).
Jamel McLean matched his career high with 4 blocked shots. He also had 4 blocks against Fordham (2-14-09).
Jason Love scored 17 points (8-of-9 FG), grabbed 9 rebounds, and had 2 blocks in just 19 minutes of action.

Up Next: Xavier concludes its three-game home stand by welcoming the Fordham Rams to Cintas Center on Sunday, January 31 at 2:00 p.m. XU leads the all-time series with Fordham, 18-3, including the last six meetings. Last season, XU defeated the Rams 86-60 at Fordham on January 11 then finished the season sweep with a 88-53 victory at Cintas Center on February 14. In the home win, XU blew open a close game midway through the first half to take a 13-point lead into halftime. In that game, XU established season highs for points (88), scoring margin (35 points), three-pointers made (14), and free throw percentage (12-for-13 for .923). Brad Redford led six Musketeers in double-figure scoring with 15 points. B.J. Raymond scored 14, Dante Jackson added 13, Derrick Brown had 12, Jason Love scored 11, and Jamel McLean chipped in 10.
