Musketeers Unable To Overcome Saint Louis, Fall 5-4.

ST. LOUIS -- The Xavier baseball Musketeers fell to Saint Louis 5-4 in the Atlantic 10 opener Friday afternoon in St. Louis, Mo. The Billikens scored four runs in the bottom of the second inning to seal the win.
Bryant Cotton pitched for the complete-game win for Saint Louis while Xavier sophomore Nate Mutsch was tagged with the loss.
With the loss, the Musketeers fell to 4-16 on the season and 0-1 in the Atlantic 10. Saint Louis improved to 12-11 overall and 1-0 in the A-10.
Xavier and Saint Louis were locked in a 1-1 tie heading into the second inning when senior Bobby Freking doubled down the left field line to lead off the inning. Freking reached home on a fielding error by the SLU center fielder to give the Musketeers a 3-1 lead.
Saint Louis rallied in the bottom of the second, scoring four runs on three hits and one error.
The Musketeers pulled within one run, 5-4, in the top of the sixth when Zac Richard crossed the plate on a throwing error by the SLU catcher after stealing third. It would be the Musketeers last run of the game as SLU held on for the win.
Xavier will continue the Saint Louis series Saturday, March 27, beginning at 2 p.m.
