CINCINNATI -- The Xavier women's tennis team improved to 3-2 on the season with a 5-2 victory over Austin Peay Saturday night. With the loss, APSU fell to 1-1 on the season.
"I'm very pleased with the win," said XU assistant coach Doug Matthews. "Austin Peay is a strong team that made the NCAA tournament last season. Any time we can beat a team that accomplished a goal that we're trying to achieve is great for our confidence. Our No. 2 singles player (Tifanie Treece) was unable to play and we had a number of people who stepped up in her absence."
Freshman Andrea Wolf filled in for Treece in the No. 2 singles slot and did not disappoint as she defeated Carolin Weikard. Kelsey Kinnard earned a 7-6, 6-2 win over Andra Cornea at No. 3 and Christie Pleiman earned a win at No. 5 over Rachel Margolies.
In doubles action, the duo of Christie Pleiman and Katie Pleiman posted an 8-4 win over Cornea and Vanja Tomic at No. 2.
The Musketeers return to action February 19 as they welcome Toldeo to the Mercy Healthplex - Fairfield for a 1 p.m. contest.
