Volleyball Falls to Houston, 3-0

HOUSTON - The Xavier volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision (25-22, 25-21, 25-16) to Houston Saturday afternoon in its last match of the Flo Hyman Collegiate Cup. Senior Michelle Matia and red-shirt freshman Alex Blair each recorded seven kills to go with a combined seven assisted blocks.
Also for the Musketeers (2-1), junior Kaleigh Rougraff was able to tally two service aces and six digs. Freshman Aubree Smith was able to set 25 assists and notch a .500 hitting percentage with five kills.
Houston (2-0) was led by Stephanie Nwachukwu who put away a match-high 15 kills for a .355 hitting percentage. The Cougars had a total of nine team blocks to the Musketeers' five and were able to capitalize on five service aces to XU's two.
The Musketeers had two representatives on the All-Tournament team: Matia and Alex Smith. The rest of the team included Houston's Katie Norris and Natalie Keck and Central Arkansas' Jesse Hayes. Houston's Stephanie Nwachukwu was named the tournament MVP.
