CINCINNATI -- The Xavier men's tennis team earned a 5-2 win over IUPUI Sunday morning at the Mercy Healthplex of Anderson. XU dropped the doubles point but rallied in singles play to improve to 5-6 on the season.
"For most of the day we were outhustled, outplayed, outcoached by IUPUI and competed very poorly which was very disturbing," said XU head coach Eric Toth. "In the end though, enough guys did their jobs in singles to get us today's win. Next time out and every match for the rest of the season we will need a more complete effort if we want to have any success at all the second half of the season."
Sophomore Jimmy Roebker earned a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles to get the XU rally started. Senior Richard Canelas posted a win over Joel Modesitt at No. 3 and Brandon MacDonald posted a win at No. 4.
Sophomore Mesa Mei and freshman Freddy Abunku sealed the XU win with three-set victories at No. 2 and No. 6 respectively.
XU returns to action as they face College of Charleston March 6, in Boca Raton, Fla.
