CINCINNATI -- Brian Bruening's two-run home run in the bottom of the second inning helped push Xavier past Miami (Ohio) 8-3 Tuesday afternoon at Hayden Field. Xavier (7-12) will face Miami (11-9) in the second game of the two-game series Wednesday at 6 p.m. in Oxford, Ohio.

Freshman Adam Hall picked up his first win as Musketeer in five innings of relief action. The XU right hander allowed just one hit and struck out two RedHawks.

Sophomore Vinny Nittoli scored XU's lone run in the third on an RBI single by freshman catcher Derek Hasenbeck. XU added two more in the bottom of the fourth, plated two runners in the bottom of the sixth, and added a run in the eighth to take an 8-2 lead.

Senior Alex Vice was up to the task in the top of the ninth as he closed out the game for the XU win.
